Several Mostly True Things About ComedyFlops

Picture
ComedyFLOPs (The Finger Lakes Original Pranksters) is an Ithaca, NY-based improv comedy troupe founded in 2011. Through live improv comedy shows, musical games, and fully unscripted performances, the ensemble has entertained audiences across the Finger Lakes region for more than a decade.

Now performing regularly in Cortland, NY while maintaining deep roots in Ithaca and Tompkins County, ComedyFLOPs blends fast-paced audience interaction with a long-standing commitment to community service.

ComedyFLOPs’ mission is to provide high-quality, affordable, and inclusive comedy across Ithaca, Cortland, and the Finger Lakes region — serving the community through entertainment, education, and philanthropy.

Founded by improv performers, stand-up comedians, and sketch writers, ComedyFLOPs gives local comedy a home in Tompkins County and beyond.

Born in January 2011, ComedyFLOPs features local comedians with ties to The Second City, Upright Citizens Brigade, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College, and Actors Workshop of Ithaca. The FLOPs have established a strong regional presence, including founding Ithaca’s first-ever Comedy Festival and the Funniest Person in Ithaca competition in 2012. They have appeared at Ithaca Festival, Apple Festival, Fall Back Fest (Rochester), Improvamonium (Rochester), and opened for national comedian Grandma Lee.

For over two years, they performed a weekly residency at Lot 10 in Ithaca, and between 2015 and 2018 they performed regularly at The Dock. Prior to the pandemic, they hosted the All You Can Eat Improv Show monthly at Ithaca’s

famed club, The Haunt. During the pandemic, they continued performing through monthly virtual shows via YouTube and Twitch.

The FLOPs currently perform in-person shows at the Ake Gallery (Cortland, NY) on the 4th Saturday of each month.

Show donations support both ComedyFLOPs’ operational needs and local charities, including Hospicare, Healthy Food for All, Community School of Music and Arts, Suicide Prevention and Crisis Services, and many others. To date, the FLOPs have raised over $16,000 for community organizations.

More than a decade after its founding, ComedyFLOPs continues to serve as a home for live, unscripted comedy in the Finger Lakes — bringing people together through laughter, spontaneity, and community connection.
